Out of hours working
The New Rules of Measurement (NRM) are published by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). They provide a standard set of measurement rules for estimating, cost planning, procurement and whole-life costing for construction projects.
According to NRM3: Order of cost estimating and cost planning for building maintenance works, normal working hours are typically 8.30 to 5.30 Monday to Friday (excluding statutory holidays), although it makes clear that actual working hours may vary.
NRM 3 defines out of hours working (or out of normal hours working) as :
‘…working outside of normal working hours and includes an uplift to rates for the extra hours worked Monday to Friday and additional time at weekend and bank holidays. Premium rate uplifts to be stated as a multiplier of normal working hour rates (e.g. 1.5 times for extra weekday hours or 2 times for weekends and bank holidays).’
